Butta is a single motif woven into the body of the saree on the loom, not printed or embroidered on afterwards.
Care Guide
Dry clean only. This is pure silk with pure zari, and it should not be washed at home.
- Dry clean only to preserve the richness of the silk and zari
- Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth or cotton bag, never in plastic for long periods
- Keep away from direct sunlight, moisture and perfume
- Use sweat pads with the blouse to protect the silk from moisture
- Refold along different lines every few months and air the saree in shade
- Fold with the zari facing inwards to retain its natural sheen
- Iron on a low silk setting from the reverse, with a cloth over the fabric. Never iron directly on the zari
- Apply perfume and hairspray before draping, never on the saree
With thoughtful care, a pure Kanchipuram silk saree can be cherished for decades and may become an heirloom.
Handloom Characteristics
This saree is handwoven using traditional Kanchipuram weaving techniques, so no two pieces are identical. The following are marks of hand weaving, not defects:
- Subtle variation in the texture and sheen of the silk across the body
- Minor irregularity in the size of the checks and the spacing of the zari buttas
- Slight unevenness along the lines where the green meets the wine
- Occasional loose threads on the reverse, where the zari is carried across the motifs and pallu
Colour Representation
We photograph every saree under neutral lighting to represent its tone as accurately as possible. However, slight variations may occur due to:
- Lighting conditions
- Fabric texture and weave
- Screen or device settings
The wine can read as deep maroon or purple depending on the light, and the green checks carry a slight two-tone sheen.
If you would like more clarity, we are happy to assist with:
- Additional close-up photos
- A personalised video call appointment
These characteristics are inherent to hand weaving and are not considered defects. They are what make each Ayraa saree truly one of a kind.
Styling Suggestions
Blouse: The saree comes with a plain wine blouse with zari lines, which keeps the checks as the focus. Run the zari lines along the sleeve hems or across the back.
Stitching the blouse: Tell your tailor where you want the zari lines to sit before the fabric is cut. Line placement has to be planned.
Jewellery: Temple gold or antique gold sits most naturally with the zari pallu. Emeralds or green stones pick up the checks.
Drape: Pleat it the usual way with the pallu over your left shoulder, so the checks fall cleanly through the pleats and the gold zari pallu is seen in full.
Wear it to: festive days, temple occasions, Deepavali and family celebrations.
