Vari is the Tamil word for stripes. Here slim gold zari stripes run the length of the navy blue body, evenly spaced.
Yaanai and Mayil are the Tamil words for elephant and peacock, two of the oldest motifs in Kanchipuram weaving. Here they are woven in zari along the teal border, with manga (paisley) between them.
Care Guide
Dry clean only. This is pure silk with pure zari, and it should not be washed at home.
- Dry clean only to preserve the richness of the silk and zari
- Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth or cotton bag, never in plastic for long periods
- Keep away from direct sunlight, moisture and perfume
- Use sweat pads with the blouse to protect the silk from moisture
- Refold along different lines every few months and air the saree in shade
- Fold with the zari facing inwards to retain its natural sheen
- Iron on a low silk setting from the reverse, with a cloth over the fabric. Never iron directly on the zari
- Apply perfume and hairspray before draping, never on the saree
With thoughtful care, a pure Kanchipuram silk saree can be cherished for decades and may become an heirloom.
Handloom Characteristics
This saree is handwoven using traditional Kanchipuram weaving techniques, so no two pieces are identical. The following are marks of hand weaving, not defects:
- Subtle variation in the texture and sheen of the silk across the body
- Minor irregularity in the spacing of the zari stripes
- Slight unevenness along the line where the teal border meets the navy blue body
- Occasional loose threads on the reverse, where the zari is carried across the border and pallu
Colour Representation
We photograph every saree under neutral lighting to represent its tone as accurately as possible. However, slight variations may occur due to:
- Lighting conditions
- Fabric texture and weave
- Screen or device settings
The navy blue can read as deep ink blue or near black in low light, and the teal can appear greener or bluer depending on the light.
If you would like more clarity, we are happy to assist with:
- Additional close-up photos

These characteristics are inherent to hand weaving and are not considered defects. They are what make each Ayraa saree truly one of a kind.
Styling Suggestions
Blouse: The saree comes with a teal blouse with zari stripes and the same zari border, so the contrast is already built in. Use the border on the sleeve hems or along the back.
Stitching the blouse: Tell your tailor where you want the zari border and stripes to sit before the fabric is cut. Their placement has to be planned.
Jewellery: Temple gold or antique gold sits most naturally with the zari border. Emeralds or pearls keep the navy and teal cool.
Drape: Pleat it the usual way with the pallu over your left shoulder, so the zari stripes fall cleanly through the pleats and the teal pallu is seen in full.
Wear it to: festive days, temple occasions, Deepavali, and wedding celebrations as a guest or family member.
