Maan is the Tamil word for deer. Here leaping deer are woven in zari as buttas, set in neat rows across the red body.

Rettai Pettu means double border in Tamil. Two zari borders are woven along the edge with a band of red between them, a classic Kanchipuram style.

Butta is a single motif woven into the body of the saree on the loom, not printed or embroidered on afterwards.

Mayil is the Tamil word for peacock, one of the oldest motifs in Kanchipuram weaving. Here peacocks run along the zari borders and down the sides of the pallu.
