Manga is the Tamil word for mango, the paisley motif of South Indian weaving. Here small zari mangas sit among fine floral vines across the whole cream body.
Yanai is the Tamil word for elephant and Mayil is the Tamil word for peacock. Here they are woven inside round medallions that run along the wide zari border.
Zari brocade is a weave where the zari pattern covers the whole body of the saree, not only the border and pallu.
Care Guide
Dry clean only. This is pure silk with pure zari, and it should not be washed at home.
- Dry clean only to preserve the richness of the silk and zari
- Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth or cotton bag, never in plastic for long periods
- Keep away from direct sunlight, moisture and perfume
- Use sweat pads with the blouse to protect the silk from moisture
- Refold along different lines every few months and air the saree in shade
- Fold with the zari facing inwards to retain its natural sheen
- Iron on a low silk setting from the reverse, with a cloth over the fabric. Never iron directly on the zari
- Apply perfume and hairspray before draping, never on the saree
With thoughtful care, a pure Kanchipuram silk saree can be cherished for decades and may become an heirloom.
Handloom Characteristics
This saree is handwoven using traditional Kanchipuram weaving techniques, so no two pieces are identical. The following are marks of hand weaving, not defects:
- Subtle variation in the texture and sheen of the silk across the body
- Minor irregularity in the outline and spacing of the manga and vine motifs
- Slight variation in tone where the cream body meets the wide zari border
- Occasional loose threads on the reverse, where the zari is carried across the brocade, border and pallu
Colour Representation
We photograph every saree under neutral lighting to represent its tone as accurately as possible. However, slight variations may occur due to:
- Lighting conditions
- Fabric texture and weave
- Screen or device settings
Because the cream body is woven with zari, it can read as ivory, light beige or soft gold depending on the light. The antique gold border and pallu can look brighter in sunlight and more bronze indoors.
If you would like more clarity, we are happy to assist with:
- Additional close-up photos
- A personalised video call appointment
These characteristics are inherent to hand weaving and are not considered defects. They are what make each Ayraa saree truly one of a kind.
Styling Suggestions
Blouse: The saree comes with a bottle green blouse with a zari border, which adds depth against the cream. A gold zari blouse keeps the look all cream and gold.
Jewellery: Antique gold or temple jewellery suits the wide zari border. Emeralds pick up the bottle green blouse.
Drape: Pleat it the usual way with the pallu over your left shoulder, so the wide zari border falls across the pleats and the gold pallu is seen in full.
Wear it to: your own wedding, a close family wedding, and festive occasions.
