A blue pure Kanchipuram silk saree woven in large Kattam (checks) of sky blue, mid blue and royal blue, with floral bouquet zari buttas set in the checks. The body is borderless, so the checks run cleanly from edge to edge. The contrast pallu turns to pink, woven closely in zari with large manga (paisley) panels and floral side borders, and the pink blouse carries rows of floral zari buttas. Silk Mark certified pure silk with pure zari, handwoven and curated in very limited pieces, it has a light yet poised drape that suits all body types and is right for festive days, family celebrations and wedding celebrations. Kattam is the Tamil word for checks, one of the classic patterns of Kanchipuram weaving. Here large checks in three shades of blue run across the whole body.
Butta is a single motif woven into the body of the saree on the loom, not printed or embroidered on afterwards. Here each butta is a small bouquet of flowers, set in the sky blue and royal blue checks.
Manga is the Tamil word for mango, the paisley motif of South Indian weaving. Here large manga panels fill the pink pallu in zari.
Care Guide
Dry clean only. This is pure silk with pure zari, and it should not be washed at home.
- Dry clean only to preserve the richness of the silk and zari
- Store folded in a breathable muslin cloth or cotton bag, never in plastic for long periods
- Keep away from direct sunlight, moisture and perfume
- Use sweat pads with the blouse to protect the silk from moisture
- Refold along different lines every few months and air the saree in shade
- Fold with the zari facing inwards to retain its natural sheen
- Iron on a low silk setting from the reverse, with a cloth over the fabric. Never iron directly on the zari
- Apply perfume and hairspray before draping, never on the saree
With thoughtful care, a pure Kanchipuram silk saree can be cherished for decades and may become an heirloom.
Handloom Characteristics
This saree is handwoven using traditional Kanchipuram weaving techniques, so no two pieces are identical. The following are marks of hand weaving, not defects:
- Subtle variation in the texture and sheen of the silk across the body
- Minor irregularity in the size of the checks and the placement of the floral buttas
- Slight variation in tone where one shade of blue meets the next
- Occasional loose threads on the reverse, where the zari is carried across the buttas and pallu
Colour Representation
We photograph every saree under neutral lighting to represent its tone as accurately as possible. However, slight variations may occur due to:
- Lighting conditions
- Fabric texture and weave
- Screen or device settings
The three blues shift with the light, so the sky blue can read as aqua and the royal blue as deep ink blue. The zari buttas look gold on the royal blue checks and paler on the sky blue checks.
If you would like more clarity, we are happy to assist with:
- Additional close-up photos
- A personalised video call appointment
These characteristics are inherent to hand weaving and are not considered defects. They are what make each Ayraa saree truly one of a kind.
Styling Suggestions
Blouse: The saree comes with a pink blouse with floral zari buttas, so the contrast is already built in. A royal blue blouse keeps the look tonal.
Jewellery: Gold sits naturally with the zari pallu. Pearls, or pink stones such as rubies, pick up the pallu and blouse.
Drape: Pleat it the usual way with the pallu over your left shoulder, so the checks fall cleanly through the pleats and the pink zari pallu is seen in full.
Wear it to: festive days, family celebrations, and wedding celebrations as a guest or family member.
